Winter Farming
Trust me when I say farming life stops for no one, not even Mother Nature. We’ve received about 15″ of snow in the last two days on top of the already packed 4″ from the previous week. In these picutes it’s about 8 am and 9 below. Oddly enough I’m not freeze yet.
I can’t believe I wasn’t even cold!
I thought it would be fun to sit outside and sip my tea. I’m just a lonely cowngril waiting to plant her garden and do some riding.
My sweet girl Harley right by my side. Heaven forbid she stay in where it’s warm. Not this big girl, she goes wherever mom goes. Bless her heart.
You can tell the pigs are hungry by they way they are following me around. One even nipped my boot. I call them hungry hippos.
Then it was time to get some plowing done… Country Gal style.
Well, I don’t know what it’s like in your neck of the woods, but here it’s colder than an icicle stuck to tongue. Whatever the temperatures in you neck of the woods, stay warm, happy and healthy.
At the end of this winter farm morning I made some delicious Country Farm Biscuits for breakfast and then for lunch I made Roasted Ham & Potato Soup. Yummy!
Here’s to another great day,
The Country Gal
Looks like what I need for when the kids drag me out to play in the snow! I do not have the proper snow attire and freeze while I’m out there!
WOW. I am from Miami and on a recent trip to Vermont almost froze. The pic of you drinking tea outside in the snow is incredible for someone like me!
I love the whole farming aspect and I hope one day that someone in my family will own one. My dad had a small bird farm which my boys just loved. This brings back so many memories. Thanks for sharing.
A farmers job is never done~ Thanks for doing what you do! An important job and so appreciative. We pretty much get all of our food from our local farms. Again thanks, Wendy
I think I’ve found a new favorite blog! Love your pictures, your recipes look delish, and you are amazingly silly and serious all at once.
Ah ha thanks Brandi. Gotta laugh with life, that’s for sure!
OMG- that looks great! I had no idea that farmers have to do their work- even in the snow! Thanks for sharing.
I’m so jealous. We had 1/2 inch of snow and terrible cold but I want a good snow! Your land looks beautiful. Enjoy it with your tea!
I love the snow! I wish we got more of it here in Denton, TX.
You look like your having so much fun I want to own and live on a farm!
Man … I love playing in the snow but my kids act like they are allergic! It looks like you are having a blast though! Those hogs … man they’re huge! What’s that on their backs? The red – they aren’t hurt are they? *wibbles*
Katrina,
The markings on their backs are numbers. These are breeding pigs. We sell some. So we mark the ones we keep.
Looks like you were having fun. The other day it wasn’t too bad was it? Right around 30 with heavy snowfall was actually pleasant. Today it’s not that great. Below zero windchill and heavy drifting, brrrr. Hope your animals stay warm in this mess.
I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin. Now in Utah, we tell people when they asked how cold was it in winter – We just told them “we could walk on water.”
I live in Arizona and even before when I was living in NJ, I knew nothing about farming! I can’t believe that the farming doesn’t stop even in the snow! I would have thought it wasn’t time for farming then! 🙂
It’s hot and humid here, as always. I do get kind of nostalgic seeing your pics. Winter snow is so much fun to see. But when I think actually experiencing it, brrrr….
yes I raise rabbits, who have shelter (unheated) and I was grimly pushing against the -50* weather to take them water and food yesterday. Oy. It is about 20 where they are though, and they do so well adapting to the cold, don’t they?
Thanks for the pictures, made me smile. 🙂
Blessings,
~Heather

Yes, it’s amazing how they adapt. One of our pigs is really much smaller than the others. But she made it though all this. Glad your rabbits made it tool
Looks like you did more before 9am than I did all day. It was so cold here earlier this week, but my dog, like yours, did not mind. She just wanted to be outside in the snow running around like a maniac!
Your such a treasure 🙂 Love the post and Thank you for sharing 🙂
Ahh those pics are so cute! If i had a farm I would be constantly bugging the animals! lol.
hahahaha I love the snow, but now that I have three kids, the idea of a snow day cooped up with three little ones who have boundless energy is not my idea of a relaxing time! I wish I could take a moment to sip some tea out there with you. 😉 Looks fun! #SITSBlogging
I get cold just looking at the pictures. I was raised in the South. I have lived where it snowed and did not like it. I am not retired where it does not snow.
