How to Keep your Designer Swimwear Looking Like New

A designer swimsuit is a great investment that can jazz up your wardrobe and flaunt your fashion sense. There’s nothing like owning a stylish bikini that is made with the finest craftsmanship from high quality materials.

Even well-designed swimsuits can end up looking the worse for wear if you don’t take care of them properly. The following tips can help you get the most mileage out of your high-end swimwear so it can last you for years to come.

Dos for Maintaining Your Swimwear

Do read the manufacturer’s label on your bathing suit and follow their instructions for washing and drying your swimwear.

Do rinse your bathing suit with cold water after you go swimming. Harsh chlorine, salt water, sand, tanning oil and other elements can cause the fabric to fade or become brittle over time. You may not have time to thoroughly wash your swimsuit each time you hit the beach or the local pool, so a good rinsing will help reduce the negative effects.

Do rinse your bathing suit thoroughly in the sink or tub with cool water. Add the proper amount of swimsuit detergent indicated on the label. If you’re using hand soap, a good rule of thumb is to add about a teaspoon per gallon of water. Place your swimsuit in the sudsy water and gently massage with your hands.

Do allow your swimsuit to air dry by laying it flat after you’ve washed it. Hanging the suit up may cause it to lose its shape.

Dont’s

Don’t wash your swimsuit in the washing machine as the rapid spinning and detergent will break down the materials quickly and reduce the life of your swimwear.

Don’t bleach your swimsuit as the harsh chemicals may ruin the material and cause discoloration.

Don’t dry your bathing suit in a dryer as the high heat may cause the elastic to wear out.

Don’t leave your bathing suit out in the sun to dry as long exposure to the heat may cause the material to fade or to become discolored.

Don’t wring or twist your swimsuit as you’re hand washing it, as this may damage the material.

Becky

After being self-employed for a majority of her adult life, Becky cannot imagine her work life being any other way. Just about an empty nester with her husband of over 21 years she enjoys the quiet. BUT sometimes misses the commotion. She is a Mom to 3 adult children, 2 boys and 1 girl (ages 26, 22, and 20 respectively) plus a daughter-in-law almost 25 years old. She is also the proud Grandma (or ma-ma) to Emma who is 6 1/2 years old and Zakary who is almost 2 years old. Becky lives out in the country and only misses the internet that a 'city/town' would offer.
